In the College Football Playoff semifinal Alabama Football and Washington Football will face off in a College Football Playoff semifinal in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on New Year’s Eve.

The Crimson Tide (13-0) will be the No. 1 seed after going undefeated through the regular season and beating Florida 54-16 in the SEC championship game.

Washington (12-1) is the No. 4 seed after beating Colorado 41-10 in the Pac-12 championship game. The Huskies’ lone loss this season came against USC, whom the Crimson Tide beat 52-6 in its season opener.

No. 2 Clemson and No. 3 Ohio State will play in the Fiesta Bowl at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona in the other College Football Playoff semifinal matchup on Dec. 31.

Alabama is the only team in the nation that has made an appearance in all three seasons of the CFP. The Crimson Tide, as the No. 1 seed in 2014, lost to 42-35 to Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl; last season, as the No. 2 seed, the Tide beat Michigan State 38-0 in the Cotton Bowl and Clemson 45-40 in the national championship game.

Washington will be making its first appearance in the College Football Playoff.

Alabama has won 25 consecutive games; the Crimson Tide’s last loss was 43-37 at home against Ole Miss on Sept. 19, 2015.

Overall, Alabama has won four of the past seven national championships. The Crimson Tide also has won three SEC championships in a row and four of the past five.

Alabama is led by coach Nick Saban, who is now in his 10th season with the Crimson Tide; Washington is in its third season under Chris Petersen, who previously had a successful eight-year stint as Boise State coach.

Both Alabama and Washington have talented young starting quarterbacks in true freshman Jalen Hurts and sophomore Jake Browning.

Alabama leads the all-time series 4-0 with its last win coming in the 1986 Sun Bowl. The Crimson Tide’s first win over the Huskies came in the 1926 Rose Bowl.

The College Football Playoff national championship game will be played on Jan. 9, 2017 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
